Your Donation's Impact

Sisters

Yoga Gives Back has been growing more than 35% every year since 2009. With your support, our funding is supporting nearly 700 mothers and children in India this year, working closely with our local NGO partners: Deenbandhu in Karnataka and NISHTHA in West Bengal. Here are two wonderful stories that inspire and teach us!

Mina

Mina Mondal, a micro loan recipient, West Bengal
Mina lives in a small, single roomed mud house in Shivsuti Village along with her husband and two sons. The house didn't have any toilet or kitchen. Her husband works as a cook in a small hotel that was the only source of income for the family of five. When YGB local partner NGO Nishtha's social worker visited her house, her family was having difficulty managing two square meals a day. Mina doesn't have any formal education and is unable to read or write. Even though it was difficult to manage food for her family when Mina found a mentally challenged girl abandoned on road, she immediately brought the little girl to their house and extended love and raises her like her own daughter for the last eight years… Gradually, Mina has learned "the trick of trade" and brings in saris from a market in Kolkata for sale in the village…Her economic condition is improving. She has very good money management skills and within this short period, she has built a toilet in the house and installed a hand pump in the house. She aspires to make a concrete house with the money she is saving in the bank…" read more here.

Devika Naskar, 17 years old, SHE (Scholarship for Higher Education) recipient, West Bengal

Devika

"Devika lives with her parents and three younger sisters. They don't have their own land, so her father Batul share crops for their food supply…Her parents were planning her marriage and they thought the girl has been educated enough, and they still need to marry off the the three younger daughters also. …Devika wanted to continue her education. At that time she was brought under the support of the SHE project, where her education is now provided by the program. Her parents were made aware of the importance of education and ill-effects of early marriage…" read more here.
